Nandigram: "They have been paid back in their own coin" is what West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had said defending the "recapture" of Nandigram.
Fifteen days after the violence that shook Nandigarm, supporters of Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee (BUPC) are thinking it's time to pay back.
Take the case of S. K. Haji, a resident of Osmanchowk and a BUPC supporter. He has lost his house and his crops have been burnt down. He does not know where his two sons and his wife are.
"I do not know where to go right now, but I will not spare them (the attackers). They have taken everything. I will not allow them to live peacefully," Haji swore, his eyes smouldering and Haji is not alone. There are others who are ready to follow in the footsteps of the 40-year-old man.
Sheikh Fazlu, another BUPC supporter, said he does not know what happened to his three sons during the violence. "But we will be back," he said defiantly.
"Neither the CRPF nor the CPI(M)'s hired cadres will stay forever. One day they will have to leave Nandigram. Then what will happen to the people who have made us suffer? They will be paid back in their own coin three times over," said BUPC treasurer S. K. Asrafultulla.
