Jalandhar: An NGO has shot off a letter to the Election Commission alleging the Congress was violating the provisions of the Flag Act by using the tricolour in its election symbol.
Copies of the communique were also sent to the Central government and the All-India Congress Committee, Sahara Youth India Welfare Society chairman Ajay Palta said here today.
"The Congress has adopted the tricolour as the base for its election symbol with a hand inscribed on it. But, this amounts to violation of the provisions of the Flag Act, 2002, which prohibits even partial use of the tricolour for political purposes," he said.
Palta said the NGO would file a PIL in court if no action was taken by the EC and the Centre and the Congress continued to "misuse" the national flag for political purposes.
