China against of using Pak to contain India: Envoy
Wednesday, November 21, 2007 22:44 [IST]

Kolkata: Shortly after assuming office as the Chinese consul-general in Kolkata after a gap of 45 years, Mao Siwei said that China does not want to use Pakistan to contain India.

In his first interaction organised by the Bharat Chamber of Commerce here today, Siwei said, "China does not see India as a threat and does not want to use Pakistan to pursue the policy of containment." Both are friends of China, Siwei says.

The Chinese envoy said that China and India shared a lot of things in common. "Both the countries are having population in excess of one billion and were the largest developing countries in the world," he said. Siwei, however, said that China was worried over Foreign Investment Promotion Board's (FIPB) practice of "scanning" Chinese investments in India. He said both the governments were in dialogue in this regard and he was hopeful things would change in the three to five years.
