Speaker pulls up BJP member
Thursday, November 22, 2007 16:28 [IST]

New Delhi: A BJP member was pulled up by Speaker Somnath Chatterjee in the Lok Sabha today for questioning his ruling on disallowing a supplementary during Question Hour.

M A K Swain's supplementary was held as "irrelevant" by Chatterjee which infuriated the BJP member who protested the Chair s decision. This prompted a visibly upset Speaker to warn the member against such a behaviour. "Questioning the ruling of the Speaker is not acceptable."

Swain wanted to know from Petroleum Minister Murli Deora about the impact on India's fiscal deficit by not raising fuel prices.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Dasmunsi said this was not the way to address the Chair.

"Anything can be said in this House... Nobody comes prepared and then they make allegations against the Chair," Chatterjee said.
