Police lodge complaint on tricolour defamation
Thursday, November 22, 2007 16:24 [IST]

Jaipur: Rajasthan police has lodged a complaint with regard to a foreign spectator's alleged act of placing a glass of wine on the tricolour during the recent India-Pakistan one-day cricket match here.

Municipal councillor of ward no-3 Harish Yadav filed the complaint with the Jyoti Nagar police station late last night, its SHO Nem Singh said today.

The complainant has been asked to furnish the original photos and visual CD of the alleged act as a supporting document, Singh said, adding, after receiving this an FIR would be lodged.

Another complaint against the RCA office bearers was filed by Gyan Prakash Qamra, who has won a number of cases relating to the tricolour, including one against TV anchor Mandira Bedi, who had worn the sari on the pattern of the national flag.

Local NGO Nagrick Morcha coordinator Suresh Mishra had yesterday claimed that a foreigner, who was a guest of the Rajasthan Cricket Association, had kept a glass of wine on the flag and said this amounted to showing disrespect to a national symbol.

Showing a picture purportedly taken during the match, Mishra demanded a criminal case be registered against the Rajasthan Cricket Association.

Mishra also threatened to go to court if the state government did not ensure any legal action against the RCA and its president and vice-president Lalit Modi and Bimal Soni respectively.
