SC for CBI probe into NOIDA Land Scam
Thursday, November 22, 2007 18:05 [IST]

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today directed the CBI to continue probe into the NOIDA land scam during the Mulayam Singh Yadav regime in 2005 in which names of several politicians, bureaucrats, judges and their kin figured.

"Since NOIDA authority and UPDESCO (Uttar Pradesh Development System Corporation Ltd) have no objection to complying with the Allahabad High Court order, the appeal does not survive," a Bench comprising Justices H K Sema and Aftab Alam said.

The Bench was hearing a petition filed by the NOIDA authority challenging the Allahabad High Court order directing CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in the controversial draw of lots in which the names of daughter-in-law of former Chief Justice of India Y K Sabharwal and son of the current acting Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court Jagdish Bhalla also figured.

Among the politicians who were declared successful in a draw of lots where Munni Devi, Rewti Raman Singh, Rashid Masood, Jai Prakash (Samajwadi Party) and Ashok Pradhan (BJP).

The apex court in its interim order on November 11,2005, had stayed the CBI investigation into the alleged irregularities into the draw of lots for the allotment of around 1250 residential plots.

However, two days after the July 2,2005 draw, it was cancelled due to public outcry and complaint by the NOIDA Enterpreneur Association.
