Cong headquarters to have a new address
Thursday, November 22, 2007 21:29 [IST]

New Delhi: The Congress headquarters will now have a new address at Deen Dayal Upadhaya (DDU) Marg instead of 24,Akbar Road, its home for 27 years.

The move comes in the wake of a cabinet decision to shift all political offices from Lutyen's Bunglow Zone. "It is not only Congress headquarters in Akbar Road but all political parties have to shift out of the LBZ within three years," Union Minister for State Ajay Maken told PTI. The Urban Development Ministry will provide alternative space outside LBZ to all parties as per their strength in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

While the Congress party has been sanctioned 8,093 sq ft area, the RJD has been allotted 1,904 sq ft area in the DDU Marg for constructing their party headquarters. The Supreme Court has asked the government to ensure that all political offices move out of the Lutyen's Bungalow Zone. As the AICC headquarters at present is located adjacent to party president Sonia Gandhi's residence, her security has been a concern for agencies as thousands of people visit the Congress office every day.
