'Cong violating seat sharing deal in Gujarat'
Thursday, November 29, 2007 09:06 [IST]

Vadodara: The Gujarat unit of NCP has criticised Congress for "not adhering" to seat sharing agreement between the two parties and putting up its candidate in Raopura assembly constituency.

Talking to newsmen, president Jayant Patel claimed that under the seat sharing agreement, Raopura was allotted to NCP and its candidate Ashok Pawar has filed his nomination paper.

But Congress candidate and daughter-in-law of former NCP state unit president Sanat Mehta, Purnima Mehta also filed her nomination paper, he said.

Patel took up the issue with NCP chief and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and general secretary Praful Patel. Purnima said Congress high command had approved her candidature.

Meanwhile, a once strong Modi supporter Ajai Dave also filed his papers as Bhartiya Janshakti Party candidate from the city assembly seat. Expelled BJP leader and BSP state unit general secretary Nalin Bhatt filed his nomination from Sayajiganj assembly seat while BJP Vadodara district unit president and sitting MLA Dilubha Chudasama resigned from the party and filed his nomination from Vadodara (rural) as independent candidate.
