Govt: No plans for survey of urban poor

New Delhi: The government has no proposal to conduct an all India survey of the urban poor, Rajya Sabha was told today.

Replying to a question, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Kumari Selja said a provision of Rs 30 crore has been made in 2007-08 budget for interest subsidy scheme for housing the urban poor. A national conference on "Affordable Housing For All" was organised in Mumbai in June this year by the government to address the issues and problems related to housing sector of the country.

The inputs received in the conference have been incorporated in the draft national urban housing and habitat policy, 2007, she said. The Minister said the Planning Commission releases estimates of urban poor from time to time on the national sample surveys but at present there is no proposal to conduct all India survey of the urban poor.
