Anbumani urges medicos in TN to call off stir
Sunday, December 02, 2007 16:11 [IST]

New Delhi: Stating that the Government has not yet taken a decision on the proposal to make one year rural service mandatory for getting MBBS degree, Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss today urged the agitating medicos in Tamil Nadu to call off their strike.

"I once again appeal to the agitating medical students to withdraw their protest and attend classes," he said. The Sambasiva Rao Committee appointed by the Centre is working on the issue and a decision would be taken after it gives its report, he added.

The Committee, which was set up following a request from the students, would submit its report by this month end, he asserted.

The minister also asked the students to give their opinion to the Committee to elicit their views over the issue.

Asked whether the Centre would take any action on the agitating students, he said "it is for the state government to decide on this since it is a state issue".
