Thirty shops gutted in market fire in West Bengal

COOCHBEHAR (WEST BENGAL): A major fire gutted 30 shops in Chowrah Haat, the biggest market in subdivisional town Dinhata in Coochbehar district on Monday night.

Police and fire brigade sources said that the fire was noticed at about 9.15 pm and five fire tenders brought the blaze under control.

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained. The traders's association of the market said the extent of damage could be over Rs one crore.

None was hurt or killed in the fire, the sources said. Fire brigade said they faced difficulty in fighting the blaze due to non-availablilty of water in the area.
