KMC launches drive against chikanguniya
Tuesday, December 04, 2007 18:27 [IST]

Kolkata: Alerted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) about chikanguniya outbreak in the city, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has launched an anti-larvaeal exercise.

"ICMR has alerted us about the outbreak of chikanguniya at Beliaghata, Topsia, Tiljala, Tangra and Sealdah areas. But we did not get any blood reports from the affected persons," KMC's member, Mayor-in-Council (Health), Subodh De said today.

De, however, said no fresh chikanguniya attacks were reported in the city since November 29.

ICMR had earlier asked the KMC to take immediate measures to prevent spread of the disease in five areas of the city.

Meanwhile, dengue which was prevalent in some areas, including Beliaghata and affected 12 persons, was under control and no further attacks were reported, he said.
