1000 Govt doctors to quit service
Tuesday, December 04, 2007 20:44 [IST]

Kochi: About 1000 government doctors have expressed desire to be relieved from the service, the Kerala Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA) today informed the High Court.

While 400 doctors have expressed their willingness to opt for VRS, 600 doctors have already resigned from government health service, KGMOA President, Dr Sunny P Orathal, said in a counter affidavit filed in the court.

This is due to the step motherly treatment of the government, he said. He claimed that the strike by the goverment doctors in the state had not affected the patients.

Meanwhile, the government said the indefinite strike was illegal and warned that extreme steps would be taken to face the strike.

The affidavit was filed in a PIl filed by Ganapathy seeking to declare the strike illegal and to invoke ESMA against the doctors.
