Somali President hospitalised in serious condition
Tuesday, December 04, 2007 22:37 [IST]

Nairobi: Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed has been hospitalised in Nairobi "in serious condition", a hospital official told AFP today.

"The Somali President has been admitted here. He is in serious condition," said the official, who declined to be identified.

A presidential aide confirmed that Yusuf was in a Nairobi hospital but played down the seriousness of his condition, insisting he would be travelling abroad shortly.

"There is no serious threat to the President s health," the aide told AFP on condition of anonymity.

The 73-year-old Somali President has suffered chronic health problems and survived a 2006 suicide car bomb attack that killed his brother and four of his bodyguards.
