Kathmandu: Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala today assured a top Chinese delegation that the Constituent Assembly (CA) polls would be held "within a specific period".
In a meeting with Chinese Minister for International Department Wang Jiarui at his residence at Baluwatar, Koirala said efforts would be made to strengthen unity among the seven party-alliance, which was crucial for polls.
"Koirala told me efforts will be made towards restoring peace and hold Constituent Assembly polls within a specific time period by strengthening the unity among the political parties despite disturbances in the ongoing peace process," Jiarui told reporters after the meet.
"Koirala assured me that CA polls would be held in Nepal at any cost," Jiarui said. Jiariu, leading the seven-member delegation, emphasised the need to resolve problems in the peace process through a consensus among seven parties.
"China hopes that the Nepalese people will be able to fully utilise the achievements of the people's movement 2006. The CA elections should be held on time to take the peace process to a logical conclusion," he said.
China will make additional contributions to Nepal's socio-economic development and strengthen the traditional Sino-Nepal relation, he said. Chinese leader Jiarui also met Foreign Minister Sahana Pradhan, Maoist chief Prachanda, CPN-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal and other political leaders.
