Islamabad: Vowing to continue his efforts to unite the opposition parties to boycott the upcoming general election and strengthen democracy and rule of law in Pakistan, Former premier Nawaz Sharif today said he did not aspire to become prime minister again.
Sharif, who yesterday joined hands with his political rival and Pakistan People s Party leader Benazir Bhutto to set conditions for free and fair polls, visited areas affected by the devastating 2005 quake to express solidarity with the victims.
Addressing lawyers and the public at the district court in Haripur in North West Frontier Province, Sharif urged people to join hands with him in the struggle to ensure the integrity of Pakistan and the restoration of the constitution and pre-emergency judiciary.
Sharif, whose nomination papers for the polls were rejected yesterday by election officials, said he was not campaigning for votes and did not aspire to become prime minister.
Noting that the country is passing through a critical phase, he said he wanted to win the battle for the integrity of Pakistan.
Sharif also said he did not trust the current judiciary which owed allegiance to President Pervez Musharraf and demanded the reinstatement of deposed judges of the superior judiciary.
