Kozhikode: Amid reports that the LTTE was shifting its operations to Kerala from Tamil Nadu following intensified surveillance by navy and coast guard, a top police official said today the militant outfit will not be allowed to set up base anywhere in the state.
"We are alive to such a possibility but the Tamil tigers will not be allowed to establish their base camp anywhere along the Kerala coast," ADGP (North) K S Jangpangi told PTI here.
On reports that the LTTE has started shifting its operations to Kerala, particularly along the Malabar coast, he said, "the Malabar coast is so densely populated unlike other states that the LTTE cannot set up a base here".
He said the LTTE, targetted by the Lankan forces in their homeland, wants a temporary shelter elsewhere as surveillance in Tamil Nadu by the Navy and Coast Guard had been intensified.
"However, it cannot succeed as eight coastal police stations have been set up in the state, four of which are in the Malabar region," he said.
Police stations located adjacent to the coastal areas have been asked to be on high alert, he said.
