Jaipur: Eleven bogies of an Ahmedabad-bound Rajdhani Express today derailed between Sirohi and Banas station near the border with Gujarat, causing minor injuries to five passengers. The accident happened around 5:55 am, SP, Sirohi, Rani Mittal said.
Only the engine and guard coaches did not go off the track. The derailment may have occurred due to a "snapped" (broken) track, officials said. The injured were administered first aid at the accident site. The train was going at top speed when the driver felt two heavy jerks, after which he applied the brakes, they said.
Around 400 passengers were transported from the accident site to the Banas railway station from where they left by a special train for Ahmedabad at 9:15 am. Because of the restoration work at the New Delhi-Ahemdabad route from Sirohi-Banas stations, four trains have been diverted and eight trains have been cancelled.
