New Delhi: The Supreme Court today issued notices to the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) and the Home Secretary on a petition alleging irregularities in the recruitment of sub-inspectors.
A bench of Justices C K Thakker and Altamas Kabir also ruled that the validity of the recruitments would be subject to the final outcome of the case before it. It asked the respondents to file the replies within four weeks. The apex court passed the order on a special leave petition filed by aggrieved promotee officers of the State police force who alleged that there were largescale irregularities in the appointment of over 1,000 sub-inspectors by the State Government.
The petitioners M Kumar and others, working as head constables, alleged that atleast three senior officers of the rank of Inspector Generals of Police (IGs) were involved in the alleged irregularities by tampering with the marks lists and other process to favour certain candidates.
It was also contented that though the Government had decided to fill 20 per cent of the posts by promoting departmental candidates, the same was ignored at the time of the recruitments. After the Madras High Court rejected their claim, the petitioners filed the SLP in the apex court.
