New Delhi: Senior BJP leader L K Advani on Sunday said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who had flayed the then NDA government for the Pokhran explosion as a Congress leader, now himself wanted to sign the Indo-US civil nuclear deal.
Addressing an election rally in Baijnath in Himachal Pradesh, he credited the then Atal Bihari Vajpayee government for making India strong by carrying out the Pokhran atomic blast.
.
'Pokhran explosion during the NDA rule made India strong due to which powerful nations like the US want to have nuclear agreements with the country today,' Advani said.
He said Manmohan Singh and other Congress leaders at that time had criticised the NDA government for the Pokhran test.
But, now the same Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister wanted to sign the Indo-US civil nuclear deal, the BJP leader said.
Hailing Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Advani said his party would provide Gujarat-type corruption-free government in Himachal Pradesh if it was voted to power in the hill state.
Addressing another poll meeting at Nadaun in Hamirpur district, he flayed the UPA government on the price rise front.
Prices of essential commodities, which were kept under check during the NDA rule, had now skyrocketed, Advani said. 'This has broken the backbone of the middle class and the poor,' he said.
Advani said the rise in terror activities during the UPA regime was due to 'vote bank' politics pursued by the Manmohan Singh government.
He assailed the UPA government for not carrying out the death sentence on Afzal Guru, an accused in Parliament attack case.
The politics of appeasment by the Congress had harmed the nation, he said
