Islamabad: The opposition Pakistan People's Party has said the new parliament formed after the January 8 polls will review all constitutional amendments made during President Pervez Musharraf's rule and can consider impeaching him.
Senator Latif Khosa, head of the PPP's election monitoring cell, said Musharraf had "defaced" the 1973 constitution and it was strange that the retired general is providing "protection" to his own actions.
The new parliament could impeach Musharraf if he did not restore the constitution to its original shape and failed to develop a working relationship with parliament, said Khosa, a confidant of PPP chairperson and former premier Benazir Bhutto.
"The opposition can consider impeaching the president if it secures two-thirds majority in the next parliamentary setup," Khosa told a press conference here yesterday.
If the opposition gets a majority, then all "anti-democratic" constitutional amendments made by Musharraf would be repealed, he said.
