Deposed Pak CJ barred from meeting Bhagwandas
Monday, December 17, 2007 16:28 [IST]

Islamabad: Deposed Pakistan Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was not allowed to say goodbye to Justice Rana Bhagwandas, the lone Hindu judge to rise to the highest echelons of the judiciary.

Bhagwandas, who was placed under house arrest in the Judges Colony here after he refused to endorse the emergency imposed by President Pervez Musharraf last month, vacated his official accommodation and flew to Karachi with another deposed judge Ghulam Rabbani yesterday.

Bhagwandas went to the deposed Chief Justice's house in the colony before leaving the federal capital but was not allowed to meet Chaudhry.

Chaudhry, who is under virtual solitary confinement, was stopped at the gate of his official residence.

Police and other security officials deployed outside the deposed Chief Justice's house also locked the gate of his residence from outside.
