Nandigram probe: Two months time granted to CBI
Monday, December 17, 2007 17:49 [IST]

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court today granted two months time to the CBI for submitting the final report on the March 14 Nandigram police firing. The CBI, while submitting the preliminary status report in a sealed cover on the ongoing investigation, prayed for four months for completing its investigations and submitting the final report.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice S S Nijjar and Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghosh directed the CBI to complete its report and submit it before the court by February 15.

Fourteen persons were killed and several others injured in the police firing and violence at Nandigram on March 14 following resistance to the West Bengal Government's bid to acquire agricultural land for a chemical hub there.
