India, Israel discuss Rail Safety
Monday, December 17, 2007 23:18 [IST]

Jerusalem: A high-level Indian delegation headed by Minister of State for Railways, R Velu, is in Israel to discuss aspects of technological upgrading and possible cooperation to ensure rail safety.

The delegation is here to participate in a conference on rail safety where a team from the Konkan railways will be making a special presentation on the mechanisms developed to avoid rail collisions, considered one of the best in the world. Velu has met with Israel's deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Railways and Road Safety, Shaul Mofaz, and discussed plans for technological upgrading and scope for cooperation between the two countries based on their respective technological knowhow.

Mofaz had visited India in March this year and met Union Minister for Railways, Lalu Prasad Yadav, and Minister of Shipping and Minister of Road Transport and Highways, T R Baalu, to outline possible areas of cooperation.
