New Delhi: Claiming that Congress politics was responsible for spread of Naxal activities, the BJP today asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to show the "resolve" to fight Left-wing extremism instead of issuing "mere statements".
A day after Singh expressed concern about growing Naxal violence, the main Opposition party said it was "amused" to see the Prime Minister finally acknowledging that Left-wing extremists have enlarged their base. "It is the Congress politics, which is responsible for such an enlargement in Naxalism. They allegedly entered into a political understanding with these outfits during elections in Andhra Pradesh and Chattisgarh," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said here.
He alleged that the ceasefire declared by the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh as per the understanding gave the Naxals a "golden opportunity to regroup and spread its tentacles". At the same time, the Central government also discontinued the co-ordinated action plan and working group arrangements initiated by the previous NDA regime to tackle naxals despite its success.
"The need of the hour is a firm action plan to combat naxalism and not mere statements," he said. He blamed the Centre completely for the spread of naxal activities when asked about the rise in violence in BJP-ruled Chattisgarh. In fact, he went on to say that "jailbreaks were not new in the country" when asked about the escape of naxals from a prison in Dantewada.
