Sikh taxi driver injured in robbery attempt in US

New York: A Sikh taxi driver was among the the two people injured in a series of robbery attempts in suburban New York.

Amarjit Singh suffered serious head injuries during the robbery attempt on Christmas eve and was being operated upon in a hospital in Queens, a suburb of New York which has a large Indian ethnic population.

Singh, along with a Caucasian man, was injured by robbers as three robberies were reported within two hours early on Christmas morning.

Police said one of the robbers had dropped a cell phone and they were trying to locate him.

One man was taken into custody after one of the victims picked him up from the photos and a line-up identification would be held on Jan 7. The United Sikh, which is assisting the victim, has appealed for help for the family.

Singh has a wife and three children.
