Srinagar: It is time for hardline separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani to face the wrath of militants who on Friday accused him and Jamaat-e-Islami of being ‘unprincipled’ for protesting Benazir Bhutto’s assassination.
“Geelani is a politician without principles. He has not yet come out of the politics of double standards that is being pursued by his parent organisation Jamaat-e-Islami,” a spokesman for Al-Nasireen, Farzandan-e-Millat, Al-Istaqlal and Save Kashmir Movement, a quartet of Lashkar-e-Taiba shadow outfits said in a statement here.
The quartet of militant outfits, which are shadow groups of Lashkar-e-Taiba, came to the fore when they claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on the eve of flagging off of the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service in April 2005 by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Reacting to the Kashmir shutdown sponsored by Geelani’s Hurriyat faction to protest the slaying of the former Pakistan premier, he said, “The strike call given by him proves that he (Geelani) lacks vision to identify enemies of Islamic movements. Was he unaware of the dangerous plans of Bhutto? By sponsoring a strike about her killing, the almighty will never forgive Geelani for his unprincipled stand.” On a sarcastic note, the spokesman said Geelani should observe a “threeday mourning” on the death of US President George Bush.
