Jodhpur: Scientists and students at IIT Mumbai have claimed to have developed a unique mobile nano device which can record the heart beat of a person constantly for 12 hours.

"We have developed a silicon locket at IIT. It will record ECG for 12 hours in one change of battery. The standard mobile interface will help the user send the SMS to the doctor about the latest ECG. This is going to help the patients immensely," Prof V Ramgopal Rao of IIT Mumbai said.

It is a hand held device, which will be with a patient all time and once fully charged the battery can record 12 hours of ECG, he said adding with constant ECG recording the doctors can find out where the actual problem is and can diagnose and give the prescription more precisely. This mobile device will hit the market very soon, Rao, who was in the city to deliver a keynote address at a national conference on Applications of Nanotechnology, said.

"At the same time this technology is cheap as in the cost of one SMS you can send the ECG to doctors. It doesn't matter where you are, how you are and what you are doing, if GPS facilities is there in your mobile, the doctor will locate your position and will take the necessary action," he further said.

According to him, another nano device called "i-sense" has been developed by the experts at IIT, Mumbai. Its sensors are used to measure the different molecular markers and their concentration level in the blood. Relative measurements are also necessary and hence this chip becomes more important.

Around 100 experts from all over the country participated in the National Conference on Applications of the Nanotechnology.
