Colombo: A prominent human rights activist in Sri Lanka has threatened to flee the country accusing the government of "setting the stage" for his "assassination".
Mano Ganeshan, convener of Civil Monitoring Commission on Extra Judicial Killings and Disappearances in Sri Lanka and a parliamentarian, sought more security as he felt his life was threatened under the current circumstances.
"I have written to President Mahinda Rajapaksa appealing to restore my security to the earlier levels. Presently, it is has been reduced to only one constable at a time", Ganesan said.
"I am preparing to leave the country as I am feeling unsafe", Ganesan, a Member of Parliament from Colombo district, said without naming the country to which he would go.
Ganesan, a leader of a political party Western People's Front, said he has also appealed to the Inspector General of Police to restore his security that was "minimised" on December 18.
"I am convinced the government is setting the stage for my assassination similar to what happened to former MP Ravi Raj", Ganesan said.
Nadaraja Raviraj, a Jaffna district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentarian was assassinated in November, 2006 in Colombo.
