Gujjar community "threatens" to boycott BJP
Monday, December 31, 2007 09:40 [IST]
Indore:The Gujjar community members on Monday threatened to ''boycott'' BJP nationwide as it ''failed'' to accord Scheduled Tribes status to them in Rajasthan.

Despite promising the status, the BJP government in Rajasthan has not taken any step in this direction. The community has therefore decide to ''boycott BJP across the country,'' Akhil Bhartiya Gujjar mahasabha vice-president Gopichand Gurjar said.

Over 26 Gujjars had died and thousands were injured in the agitation in Rajasthan, he said, adding instead of fulfilling its promises, the BJP government in Rajasthan registered fake cases against thousands of community members, 500 of whom are still languishing in jails.

Gopichand Gurjar, who was in Indore to attend Mahasabha's national convention, said the Congress has also not clarified its stand over the issue. If it does not do so soon, the community will be forced to boycott it too.

A Mahasabha delegation will soon meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi over the issue.
