Militants kidnap official in Manipur
Monday, December 31, 2007 12:01 [IST]

Imphal: Unidentified militants have kidnapped an assistant engineer of Manipur Education Department S. Indrajit Singh, official sources said today.
Sources said the militants abducted the official on December 15 but an FIR was filed with the police only a few days ago.

Sources said Singh was taken at gunpoint from a place near his office and his whereabouts were still unknown. Meanwhile, several social organisations including major civil society group, United Committee Manipur (UCM), in separate statements demanded immediate release of the official.

Sit-in protest was also held by staff members of the education department to press for immediate release of Indrajit Singh, official sources said.
