Amritsar-Dibrugarh Express carriage derails

BALLIA: Around 100 passengers of the Amritsar-Dibrugarh Express had a miraculous escape on Saturday when one of its bogies derailed between Sahtawar and Bansdeeh Road, disrupting rail traffic on the section.

The accident occurred around 10:15 pm with a carriage of the train jumping the track but all the passengers were safe, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjay Rai said.

He said alternative arrangements were being made for the train passengers and work was on to clear the tracks.

Senior officials of the district administration and police had rushed to the site to take stock of the situation and inquire into the cause of the accident.

Rail traffic had also been disrupted on the section.
