Islamabad: A security guard was killed when an explosive device went off near a video shop on the outskirts of the capital of Pakistan's North West Frontier Province (NWFP) today.
The security guard was asleep when the bomb planted adjacent to the video shop on the outskirts of Peshawar was detonated early this morning. He died instantly, police said. The bombing was the latest in a series of attacks in the NWFP targeting shops selling music and films.
Pro-Taliban militants have warned the owners of such shops to switch to other businesses or shut down as music and films are "un-Islamic". Few people have been injured in the blasts as most of them have occurred before dawn, when the shops are usually empty.
Pakistan's tribal areas on the border with Afghanistan are a stronghold of pro-Taliban militants, who have sought to enforce the Sharia in the region.
