Lucknow: Blaming the Congress for not putting up a fight in the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly elections, BSP chief Mayawati said had it been a "little more serious" it would not have given the BJP a walkover.
"Had the Congress been a little more serious and better prepared for the assembly polls, BJP would not have managed a majority in Gujarat. It was the responsibility of the main opposition party to fight but it gave it gave the BJP a walkover," she said.
She said her party achieved its target of making dents in the vote banks of both the Congress and BJP in terms of voting percentage.
The UP chief minister dismissed media reports of the BSP dissolving the "Brahmin bhaichara samiti" as the upper castes did not vote for the party in the Ballia bye-election.
"The media reports are misleading and aimed at trying to wean the Brahmins away from the BSP," she said adding there was no discrimination against either the upper or backward castes.
