Mumbai: Dalit and Republican Party leaders accused the state government of having sold itself out to the builders’ lobby. They said the law and order situation in the state had collapsed, with the incident of the alleged murder of the monk at Govandi, along with the Juhu molestation and Latur rape cases. The leaders gave a call for a campaign against the Slum Redevelopment Authority for alleged corruption in it.
People’s Republican Party chief Prof Jogendra Kawade said, “If the state government does not take serious action against the culprits, we will start nakabandi protests all over Maharashtra. The government is being driven by builders and rich lobbies. This will not be tolerated. Molestation in Juhu and the rape in Latur are the evidences of the collapse of law and order situation,” he said. RPI leader Prakash Ambedkar said whenever such incidents occurred, the home department has not responded promptly.
“Various other projects under the Slum Redevelopment Scheme, including the Govandi one, have been forcibly implemented by SRA, sidelining the poor residents from the area. The outcry of the locals against SRA will spread to other parts of the city.” Another RPI leader Rajendra Gavai said, “Acting police commissioner Vijay Kamble assured that postmortem by two independent teams of doctors will be conducted to avoid any ambiguity. If the accused are not arrested immediately, a statewide agitation will be launched,” Gavai said.
