New Delhi: The Delhi high court has held that if a crime is committed under the jurisdiction of various police stations, an FIR can be registered at any of them. Justice SN Dhingra made the observation while directing the Bihar police to transfer a dowry harassment case to Delhi.
“The FIR can be registered even if part of the crime has taken place within the jurisdiction of that police station,” Dhingra said. The order came on two petitions filed by one Shweta’s husband Niraj Trivedi and his family of a dowry harassment case.
The husband’s family wanted it quashed on the ground that it was registered in Bihar. Shweta, who is from Bihar, got married to Niraj in Delhi in 1998. Both of them shifted to the US. She complained to her parents that her in-laws were harassing her for dowry. In 2002, Niraj filed for divorce case in a court in New Jersey, which Shweta is contesting.
