Tribal youth killed, CPI-M leaders' houses torched
Monday, January 07, 2008 18:28 [IST]

Agartala: A tribal youth was today shot dead by para-military Tripura State Rifles personnel who mistook him to be a militant after which activists of an opposition party set on fire five houses of ruling CPI(M) leaders in West Tripura district.

Seventeen-year-old Dhananjoy Debbarma was fatally injured when he was fired at by the securitymen, mistaking him for an insurgent, during a counter-insurgency operation at Tuichakma area.

As news of Debbarma s death spread, supporters of opposition Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura set ablaze the houses of CPI-M leaders.
Senior police officers, including DIG (Western Range) Joydev Nayek have rushed to the spot with reinforcements.
