Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Poverty Eradication Mission has drawn up a Rs 103.21 crore scheme for rejuvenation of slums in 22 towns to be implemented through its nodal agency Kudumbhashree.
The project aimed at building housing units and creating basic amenities for 517 slums under the Centre-sponsored Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP), a Kudumbashree release said there today.
Under the programme, 5717 familes would get new houses, each costing Rs 80,000 and 3436 families would be given financial assistance for rejuvenation of houses, it said.
An amount of Rs 48 crore had been earmarked for creation of facilities like drinking water supply, sanitation, building of roads, street light, common social facilities, health centres and waste-disposal systems.
The project involved 80 per cent central funds and the rest to be borne by the state government, civic bodies and the beneficiaries, it said.
In each town, the schemes would be drawn up eliciting the views of the beneficiaries with an in-built social auditing mechanism for monitoring of implementation.
The centre had sanctioned Rs 190 crore for the IHSDP scheme to be taken up during 2006-2011. Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan would inaugurate the scheme tomorrow at Alappuzha.
