5,000 more posts in Delhi Police for C'Wealth
Monday, January 07, 2008 20:12 [IST]

New Delhi: In an effort to tighten security arrangements ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games here, the centre has sanctioned creation of 5,000 additional posts in Delhi Police.

Since the focus would be on providing mobility to the security personnel, 2,000 of the new posts would be created for the Police Control Room (PCR), a senior Home Ministry official today said.

He said that 1,000 new posts have been earmarked for the traffic department in the Delhi Police. The Security wing would get 800 more personnel, while the number of police deployed at the airport would go up by 200.

Of the remaining 1,000 posts, the Communication wing will have 500 additional personnel while the rest would be utilised for ensuring foolproof arrangements at the different venues.

Marking the 1,000-day countdown of the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, a run was organised here yesterday in which a galaxy of past and present sports-persons, who have brought laurels to the country, led thousands of Delhiites and foreign athletes.

The logo of the Games, a spiralling Chakra, was also released on the occasion.
