Washington: The White House today sternly warned Iran against "provocative actions that could lead to a dangerous incident, after a stand-off between US and Iranian ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
"We urge the Iranians to refrain from such provocative actions that could lead to a dangerous incident in the future," US National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said in a terse statement.
Pentagon officials said Iranian speedboats swarmed three US navy ships in the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend, radioing a threat to blow them up and raising tensions ahead of President George W Bush's trip to the Mideast. The Strait of Hormuz is the outlet on the Gulf through which much of the world's oil flows.
