New Delhi: Former BJP leader Pramod Mahajan's daughter Poonam is set to play an active role in the party. Poonam's first major assignment is coming up in the form of 'Kisan Yatra' of party chief Rajnath Singh in Vidarbha region of her home state Maharashtra.

She has been tasked to organise the yatra in five districts in Vidharba, which has witnessed a large number of farmer suicides in last few years, sources said.

Poonam, who is here in connection with a Badminton championship organised in memory of her late father, held discussions with some party leaders for the yatra.

"She is already the youth wing's office bearer and she is supposed to take up responsibilities for the party when it is needed," a BJP leader said.

Later in the month, Poonam is also slated to play the host along with other state leaders at a "public function" in Mumbai to felicitate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

After Mahajan's death, his son Rahul was projected to take up his political mantle. He also attended couple of party demonstrations in Mumbai but faded away into oblivion after getting mired by controversies.
