Congress ready for snap poll: Alva
Tuesday, January 08, 2008 22:39 [IST]

Chandigarh: The Congress today said it was ready for mid-term election to the Lok Sabha in case it was thrust upon the country by any political party or group.

The party would not force snap poll but if circumstances demand, it was ready to go to the people, Congress general secretary Margaret Alva told a press conference here.

"The mandate is for a five-year term. We want to complete the term," she said adding others should also realise their responsibilities. "If they force us, we can go for a mid-term poll," Alva said without identifying any party or group.

The Congress had resolved several issues amicably through negotiations, she said adding "in spite of that if some party or group forces a snap poll, we are ready for it."
