New Delhi: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and suggested giving a fresh look at the internal security scenario in the wake of the recent political unrest in Pakistan and terror strikes in different parts of the country.
Expressing concern over problems in the border areas of Gujarat, he said the BSF and the Coast Guard are unable to patrol effectively the coastal waters in the Gulf of Kutch.
The Customs department does not have sufficient manpower to check smuggling, he said.
''Modi urged the Prime Minister that looking at the recent political unrest in Pakistan and terror attacks in various parts of India, the entire internal security scenario demands a fresh look'', a Gujarat government release said.
In the meeting, Modi also drew Prime Minister's attention to ''injustice'' against Gujarat in the allocation of gas. He wanted the Centre to relook at the present policy of allotting exploration blocks through a bid route.
He said the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation should be allotted the entire oil and gas in Gujarat basins on nomination basis and be permitted to obtain seismic data through aerial survey.
