Chandigarh: Taking yet another major step for conservation of electricity, the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has decided to make the use of the energy efficient compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) mandatory on all tubewells in its area comprising districts Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, Bhiwani, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Gurgaon, Mewat and Faridabad.
A spokesman of the DHBVN said here today that the farmers would be asked to replace all the existing incandescent bulbs installed on the "Kothas" (Rooms) of the two lakh tubewells up to January 31, 2008 at their cost.
With effect from February 1, 2008, the farmers found using incandescent bulbs on tube well "Kothas" shall face immediate disconnection without any notice.
The spokesman said that as per an estimate, total number of traditional bulbs used on tubewells in the area of the DHBVN is about three lakh as there are two bulb points on a tubewell.
Replacement of all of these traditional bulbs would result in saving of about 24 MW power which is sufficient for running 4300 additional tubewells.
