Wednesday, January 09, 2008 21:44 [IST]

New Delhi: Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal and two other Congress MLAs from the state are likely to face the axe from the party following their acts rebellion.

A meeting of the Disciplinary Action Committee of the AICC was held tonight to deliberate on the action to be taken against the three Haryana leaders.
After the meeting, senior leader Pranab Mukherjee said a decision on the three leaders - Lal, Dharam Pal Malik and Rakesh Kamboj - would be announced in a day or two.

A petition on disqualification of the three legislators is already pending with the Haryana Speaker, who has issued a notice to them in the matter. The committee deliberated on the report on the issue from the state unit, Mukherjee told reporters. The Haryana unit of Congress has recommended strict disciplinary action against the three MLAs, sources said. "The three leaders face charges of anti-party activities and talking against the Central leadership," Mukherjee said.

The meeting, chaired by Union Minister A K Antony, was attended by Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda besides senior leaders like Motilal Vora. Congress has already decided to approach Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee to seek the disqualification of suspended party MP Kuldeep Bishnoi, Lal's son, who recently announced formation of a new party Haryana Janhit Congress.

Lal, Malik and Kamboj have joined the new party. Lal has been sulking since the last Assembly elections, when Hooda was chosen over him to become Chief Minister.
