Sea collision not major: Govt

New Delhi: The Cayman Island-registered MV Leads Castle, which rammed against advanced naval submarine INS Sindhughosh in a freak accident north of Mumbai on Monday may not have suffered major structural damages.

A defence ministry communique said, “An Indian Naval Submarine undertaking routine patrol off the West Coast of India was involved in a minor collision with a merchant vessel Leads Castle plying in these waters on Jan 9, 2008 at West Coast area in Arabian Sea.

No noteworthy damage has occurred to either of these vessels and there has been no injury or loss of life. An investigation is on.” The damage to the ship was ‘limited to slight fractures on the ship’s austenitic structure (the body), sparing the hull’.
