Soldiers eve-tease girls, army orders inquiry
Friday, January 11, 2008 18:51 [IST]

Jammu: Four army jawans today allegedly eve-teased girls in Kandi area of Rajouri provoking immediate protests and an exchange of fire with the local village defence committee.

The jawans of 20 Rashtriya Rifles were captured and their firearms taken away by the VDC members while the army has ordered a Court of Inquiry into the matter.

Officials said the weapons were later handed to the police and the jawans released after a formal complaint was registered. The trouble started when the jawans allegedly misbehaved with several girls in Kandi, leading to a protest by locals and clash with the VDC, they said.

They said some shots were fired but there were no injuries. Army spokesman Col S D Goswami said a Court of Inquiry has been ordered into the incident and the jawans would be severely punished if found guilty.
