20 children take ill after receiving polio drops

Narsinghpur (MP): As many as 20 children fell ill after being administered polio drops in a village near here, official sources said today.

The children, residents of Devari Kala village, were rushed to the district hospital with nausea, vomiting and dysentry, chief medical and health officer Dr S L Sahu said. They developed the symptoms after being administered the polio drops during the pulse polio campaign on January 6, he said adding, "however, it was yet to be ascertained whether the illness was caused due to the drops."

A team from Jabalpur Medical College has been summoned to investigate the matter and analyse the polio drops administered in the village, he said.
The children fell ill about two hours after being adminsitered the drops, village sarpanch Shashikant Mishra told PTI. Authorities concerned have been informed about the incident, he added.
