Baghdad: A suicide car bombing outside a bakery in eastern Baghdad today evening killed four civilians and wounded at least eight, security officials said. The blast occurred in the busy market area of Baghdad's mainly-Shiite Al-Gadir neighbourhood at around 8.30 pm, security officials said.
Bakeries, usually run by Shiites, are often singled out for attack in the sectarian violence that has ravaged the Iraqi capital for the past two years. Iraq has been hit by a new surge of violence since the start of the new year, with more than 100 people killed in bombings, suicide attacks and shootings, about half of them in Baghdad. The violence has shattered a relative lull experienced in the closing weeks of 2007.
