Monday, January 14, 2008 12:02 [IST]

Varanasi: Two persons were killed and five others injured when a cylinder exploded inside a shop at Chauka Ghat area here this morning, police said.

The cylinder, belonging to the shopkeeper, may be over-filled with Hydrogen gas which might have caused the blast, they said. All the injured were admitted to a near-by hospital and their condition is stated out of danger, they said, adding a case has been registered against the shop-owner.

The festival of Makar Sankranti is being celebrated today in the entire eastern region of the country and several temporary shops and stalls have come up in this pilgrimage city.
